Airfix Kits
I'm often asked for more crafts for boys, so on this page you'll find a selection of the ever popular Airfix kits.
The Airfix name has been around since 1939, and they've been producing scale plastic model kits since 1952.
They're also the oldest UK manufacturer of scale plastic model kits and produce a wide range of kits including military aircraft, ships, cars and military vehicles.
Airfix is now under the ownership of Hornby Hobbies Ltd, who also own the other well known brands of Hornby, Scalextric and Corgi.
Perhaps you saw the BBC programme where James May built a 1:1 scale Airfix kit of a Supermarine Spitfire Mk I in order to illustrate why these traditional toys are still relevant to children today.
By pushing the Airfix kit to its limit with this spectacular supersized challenge, James managed to enthuse a group of initially reluctant schoolchildren to help him build it.
It was stunningly successful.
